Behind The Scenes: Set For Life

This week we launched a brand new game - Set For Life. The amount of work that has gone into taking this from a brilliant idea through to the draw on launch night is incredible. Our people are what made all of this happen. From our Brand team shooting a jaw-dropping advert, our Regulation team making sure we’re doing everything right and with integrity, through to our Draw team ensuring that the game is executed to perfection. We’ve all pitched in.

Meet Julie. Julie has worked for Camelot for 19 years and has loved every minute of it. She started in the Contact Centre and has also worked in Winner Services, Security Operations and is currently our Draw Operations Supervisor.

Julie and her team worked very hard leading up to the launch of this game. Their job was to ensure all the specifications were met for the machines and balls, and new ones were required of both to make Set For Life possible. There is no room for error when it comes to the testing, so it’s quite a fascinating process.

The certification process for the machines means that the balls had to be loaded in numerical order for every drop required, which was nearly 3,000 draws in total. These drops are required to gather data which is then sent off to the University of Hertfordshire for data analysis. This is to confirm they are satisfied with the machines and that they are drawing the balls in random fashion.

The Set For Life draw also needed new lottery balls, which required quality control checks and had to be weighed twice to confirm they met the required tolerances to allow them to be certified for use.

Julie is extremely proud of the work her team have done to get ready for this launch. We caught up with her and this is what she had to say..

Why are you excited about our new game, Set For Life?

This is going to be a very popular game. It will be very attractive for all ages and, being an annuity game, brings the excitement of winning an extremely nice sum of money every month for 30 years.

What was your biggest challenge?

Our biggest challenge was to ensure the machines were shipped over in time to allow us to be able to test them and to carry out the required drops for machine certification. We also had to ensure that the balls met the required specification in time. All of this was done while maintaining all of our standard draw night activities.

As a Camelot employee you can’t play The National Lottery, but if you didn’t work here and did win Set For Life, what would you do with your winnings?

If I won £10,000 every single month for 30 years, I would treat my family and friends often, and give to charity. I would pay extra each month on my mortgage to pay it off faster, buy a motorhome and go on lovely holidays. I would also have huge shopping sprees. I would still shop in Primark though!
