Celebrating International Women's Day with The Camelot Women’s Network

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day - #EachforEqual.

“An equal world is an enabled world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day”.

We will be hosting events all month long starting with sharing inspirational TED TALKS for everyone to view in our Watford HQ auditorium.

Secondly we be creating a Pledge Wall by committing to actions that will help forge a more gender equal world. The pledges can be as small or as large as you like and examples include pledging to call out when you see or hear gender stereotypes or bias, or to keep an open mind about equality and inclusion.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

This day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women's equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality.

However, research shows that women are still not fully present in equal numbers in business or politics and in some areas are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts. However, improvements are being made. Camelot are already succeeding in that respect, in that they treat everyone equally and appreciate the hard work everyone puts in!

Nowadays, we see female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices. And so each year the world inspires women and celebrates their achievements.

International Women's Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action - whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women's Day has been occurring for well over a century - and continues to grow from strength to strength.
