The National Lottery has launched its Christmas campaign with a nationwide TV advert. The 40-second animated ad celebrates the milestone of 500,000 lottery-funded projects – which was reached in 2016 – and thanks the public for what they make possible across the nation by playing National Lottery games.

The ad builds on the momentum generated by the success of this summer’s ‘I Am Team GB’ and ‘I Am ParalympicsGB’ campaigns, and sees a flock of animated tickets flying over famous lottery-funded landmarks – like Cardiff Castle and the Giant’s Causeway. The tickets then go on to revisit the success in Rio – soaring over a Team GB athlete as she crosses the finish line – before culminating in a festive village square, with a children’s choir singing and people ice skating.

In addition, bespoke in-store POS – including posters, bunting and counter cards – and national print ads will highlights a series of fantastic festive draws that National Lottery retailers can make the most of, including:

  • Christmas Eve Lotto draw, which will have 200 extra raffle prizes of £20,000 (this is in addition to the 20 raffle prizes of £20,000 and 1 raffle prize of £1 million in every Lotto draw)
  • EuroMillions Christmas Mega Week draws on 20 and 23 December – each of which will make 5 guaranteed UK Millionaires (10 in total), with all of them also winning a luxury winter get-together
  • New Year’s Eve Lotto draw, which will have 100 extra raffle prizes of £20,000 (this is in addition to the 20 raffle prizes of £20,000 and 1 raffle prize of £1 million in every Lotto draw)

There have also been a number of Christmas-themed National Lottery Scratchcards on offer for the past few months – including the £2 ‘Christmas Countdown’ and £5 ‘Christmas Advent Calendar 2016’. These still have some big prizes on offer, and make the perfect Secret Santa gift or addition to a seasonal card.

Camelot’s Head of Retail Channel, James Pearson, commented: “We’ve had a lot to celebrate in 2016 – not least of all half a million projects funded and the amazing success of Rio. National Lottery retailers should feel rightly proud of this – and what better time of the year to say thank you than at Christmas. Sales of our festive Scratchcards have been really strong and we hope our retailers really get behind the fantastic Christmas-themed draws too. I’d like to take the opportunity to wish all our National Lottery retailers a happy, prosperous New Year.”
